When
fishing in tackle graveyards it pays to keep your end rigs as simple as possible
- for the good of the environment as well as your pocket. The components of the
following rig are few, and cheap. Worth considering if a lot of tackle is being
lost.
A running
leger, using a large ring swivel on the line with a paper-clip for lead attachment
is a simple choice. The paper-clip is strong enough to take a cast with a six
ounce lead, but will open out when you get snagged up and have to give it the
old heave ho - unless it is the swivel that has become wedged. It will also stand
a good chance of opening out if a fish snags the lead up during the fight. The
large ring swivel is stopped by a rubber bead above a size eight Power
Swivel tied to the end of the line. One
big advantage of a running lead is that should a hooked fish become completely
snagged, and a break occurs, the fish will only be left with a hook and the hooklink
attached - there is no chance of it towing the lead around and becoming terminally
tethered. This
rig can also be used with swimfeeders. |
